Horror Fiction Tapes

Been a bit quiet on the ranch of late, but I assure you, not without activity behind the scenes. I'm beyond excited to finally announce the launch of the in house label here at GMLT, Horror Fiction Tapes. Two releases in the first edition. Both featuring the absolute best in self released submissions I've been fortunate enough feature here, Ontario Canada's, Beard Closet, and Vancouver's Kroykah who I've featured twice under the moniker Red Dwarf Star. These are total head trips, both of which completely out do what I've featured before. Beard Closet absolutely rips, and Kroykah is just spooky and fractured as can be.

Editions of just 35. Had these pro dubbed by NAC on white, and hand stamped. Inserts are individually printed on pages from old paperbacks. Each one is truly a one of a kind individual labor of love. Incredible sounds featuring two of my absolute favorites. Come check this out right here.

Kroykah - Holy Turns Homely

Sombre, isolated, even sedated currents of apprehension from Kroykah, with Holy Turns Homely. The slow trickle of wax down a blood red candle flicking in the drafts of an open window. Fleeting moments of defects captured and frozen, playful and sad. Experimentation captured by Vancouver's Tanner Lobey.

Thirty five hand stamped copies, professionally dubbed on chrome tape. Inserts duplicated directly on individual pages of a 1980 copy of the novel Scavengers, by David J. Skal. Grab directly at Horror Fiction Tapes.

Red Dwarf Star / Chelsea Oberion - Split

Space station haunting and grinding astral machines on this self released split featuring Red Dwarf Star and Chelsea Oberion. Sophisticated melodic miniatures on the front side from RDS. Loops, both vaguely extraterrestrial and simultaneously melancholic drowning in a warbled disintegrating static. Undefined and untitled compositions that begin and end without celebration or title. As if bits and pieces of sound were broken off and captured, then presented without context. Emotionally affecting, lonely, optimistic sounds. On the flip, Chelsea Oberion absolutely decimates with multilayered tonal obliteration. Sounds like a release from The Grey Wolves, cast through the wormhole and ground into space detritus emerging drenched in eroded feedback. Power electronics from the rings of Saturn.

This is the type of completely legit DIY material I search high and low to find. Hand assembled, hand written liner notes, packaged with an old Pro Set card from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Purchase via Bandcamp.

Red Dwarf Star - Untitled Cassette

So a few months back I started trading tapes with a dude named Tanner from Washington. Along with a copy of Steve Peters' Filtered Light, he sent back a mysterious unlabeled cassette full of meditative sound collage. Bits of warm miasma, field recordings, elements of mechanical processes and subtle moonscape. A range of styles from the raw sound of public places, to passages of deep evolving light and dark. Within the tracks that I now know were unfinished at the time, existed the elements that have now been made available as "Untitled Cassette" from Red Dwarf Star. I was intrigued by these tracks when I first heard them, and now in their finished form they are something truly special.

Untitled Cassette is a hand assembled run of just 10 copies. Each one comes with a unique color cover, and a handwritten title on the spine. Support by visiting Bandcamp, where you can stream excerpts, and purchase a physical copy.
