Orphan Fairytale - My Favorite Fairytale

Hallucinatory music box daydreams from Orphan Fairytale with My Favorite Fairytale on Aguirre Records. Double LP, four massive side of these tiny slick little bee swarms of light, playful loops. From the label description, this looks to be a compilation re-release of previously scattered material. The only adjective that seems to fit these discs is "twinkling", in that these tracks, have a spriteful impish sense about them. Sometimes gorgeously simple and beautiful, others a little bit wicked and challenging. It's that kind of release where none of the instrumentation seems like anything in particular, either a synth, a live instrument, or possibly some home made automaton construct of both, but it all feels completely alive and unexpected. Loops, joining, matching, mismatching, intersecting somewhere between outer space and a castle made of lollipops. Seriously otherworldly ambient trip.

Absolutely can't miss physical product. Edition of 500 on black vinyl, super high gloss double width jacket, poly lined sleeves, full sized liner notes. I grabbed direct from Aguirre.

Transmuteo - Transmuteo

This is it for me. I use the word "meditative" very frequently as an album descriptor. Typically in a figurative sense, to indicate that a record could be used to release ones self from the limitations of the ego. But this, the self titeld Transmuteo LP, from Transmuteo on Aguirre Records, is literally a meditation record. An insistent yet soothing female voice opens the record instructing the listener to repeat spoken affirmations, and again, closes the record by acknowledging that the participant may now be asleep, but has, unconsciously absorbed these reaffirming thoughts.

Between these bits of instruction, lie moments of completely blissed out new-agey wizardry. Tracks that, without borrowing too heavily from the inspiration of the album jacket, feel akin to floating, out of body across oceans of crystal blue tropical paradise. An other worldly trip, buoyed along on currents of crisp pulsating arpeggios and washes of ambient texture. Truly an exceptional work, regardless of one's appreciation for the more esoteric elements. One that can be enjoyed for the piece of mind expanding material I think it aspires to be, or simply as an essential piece of electronic music.

Edition of 200, black vinyl, I found this release so essential, that I commited the sin of "double purchasing" to get the digital copy required for hikes and stuff. Grab direct from Aguirre

Mind Over Mirrors - High & Upon

Powerful, emotionally intense progressive compositions from Mind Over Mirrors, with High & Upon, on Aguirre Records. Ambient soundscapes, amplified until broken open, allowing a beautiful confluence of disparate ideas to emerge. Hard angular layers of processed instrumentation, overdriven to the point of collapse, juxtaposed against bare melodic keys. Over the course of fifteen minutes, the track Mountain Convalescence typifies the brilliance of the record. A rising, swirling, droning ascent to the pine boughed hill top represented by the incredible album art, capped by a repetitious melody so blown out I began to fear for my stylus. As human and spiritually impacting an abstract release as you will ever find.

Another stunningly perfect piece of vinyl cut by Rashad Becker. Part of an exceptional new batch from Aguirre, which as of now is still entirely available from Discriminate.
